Sadiq's story

"London gave me the opportunities to fulfil my potential. Now I’m working hard to ensure all Londoners get the opportunities our city gave me and my family – and I'm standing up for our values. I’m proud that we’re already delivering results that will make a real difference to Londoners' lives."
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London

Growing up in London

London gave me and my family the opportunities we needed to fulfil our potential. A secure job for my dad as a bus driver. A council home so we could save for a deposit. A great education at a London state school and university. A supportive local community.

Giving back to London

I’m so proud to serve the city I love. First as a local Councillor, then as the Member of Parliament for my home community of Tooting, a Minister in the last Labour Government, and now as Mayor of London.

Championing our values

I’ve always stood up for Londoners' liberal values. Before I was elected, I worked as a human rights lawyer and marched against the Iraq war. As an MP, I campaigned against the impact of austerity on London’s communities. And now as Mayor, I’m leading the fight against a hard Brexit, defending the rights of EU citizens in London, standing up to the anti-London Tory Government, and defending London’s openness, diversity and tolerance against Donald Trump and the far-right.

More opportunities for Londoners

I’m working hard every day to ensure all Londoners get the same opportunities that our city gave me and my family. Secure jobs that pay a Living Wage. Genuinely affordable housing. Great education and training. Clean air to breathe. A safe and healthy start to life.

A better London

It’s been a tough few years for London. We’ve had terrorist attacks, the awful Grenfell Tower fire, continued Government austerity and the chaos of Brexit. But I’m positive and optimistic about our future. I know that together, we can make London an even better city to call home.
